The Freshwater Spills
Symposium was established in 1996. This biennial event offers an opportunity
for local, state, federal, and industry responders; natural resource
trustees and managers; facility response planners; and additional
stakeholders to engage in an exchange targeted at the unique problems of
freshwater oil spills. View the list of
presenters for topics that will be discussed during this year’s breakout
sessions.
The symposium emphasizes
the frequently understated impact of oil spills in inland water bodies.
These spills have a higher potential for public and environmental endangerment
because of their tendency to occur close to populated or biologically
sensitive areas where they can threaten resources we value and depend upon,
such as drinking water, wildlife, and environmentally sensitive areas.
FSS encourages the
transfer of technology, promotes the exchange of new ideas, and provides a
forum for discussion of issues regarding freshwater oil spills through a
series of individual presentations and panel discussions. A variety of
topics will be covered in a series of concurrent breakout sessions.
